Sakhalin Companies Preparing for Seafood Expo Russia 2022
2 August 2022

The fishery industry plays a key role in economic development and ensuring the social stability of Sakhalin and the South Kuril Islands. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the Sakhalin Region to the Russian fishing industry. Sakhalin companies have the greatest potential for fish processing in the Far Eastern fishery basin and rank third in terms of the catch and processing of fish and seafood. Over three years, they have invested more than RUB 17 billion in the construction of new coastal fish processing facilities, salmon spawning plants, and a modern fishing fleet. The main companies will represent the Sakhalin Region at Seafood Expo Russia in St. Petersburg.

Since 2017,  Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia has taken on the status of an international event that addresses major issues and shapes the main trends in the industry’s development. Each year, the event brings together representatives of all sectors of the fishing industry and other related areas of the economy: from catching and raising fish and seafood to delivering finished products to the end consumer.

Per tradition, leading companies from the Sakhalin Region’s fishing industry take part in Seafood Expo Russia. In particular, the South Kuril Fish Processing Plant has been presenting its products at the expo each year since its debut in 2017. At that time, an agreement was signed on the sidelines of the event on the construction of the first fishmeal and fish oil production plant in Russia and the CIS on Kunashir Island with Norwegian-based equipment that had been introduced in Thailand. The production facility was put into operation in January this year.

Other regular participants include such companies as Gidrostroy, Dalkrevetka, and Promflot. Over the years, they have made a valuable contribution to the event that brings the entire fishing industry together. Thanks to these companies, not only all of Russia, but also visitors from all over the world have learned more about modern fishing on Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, and the companies have acquired several new customers and partners who have given them an additional boost for development and contributed to the process of modernizing the fishing fleet as well as fish processing.

In addition, the fishing companies Binom and Kardinal, the kelp-based dietary supplement manufacturer Divia-Farm Sakhalin, and the mariculture sector company Krokspro took part in the event last year as part of a joint booth of the Sakhalin Region’s Export Support Centre.

This year, expo guests are once again looking forward to learning more about Sakhalin companies, which always manage to surprise even such a professional audience with the novelties of their exposition.

V Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia will take place on 21–23 September. This year, the event is celebrating its fifth anniversary and will be the largest in its history. The expo will take up two pavilions at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre in St. Petersburg. The central themes will be the continued construction of the fleet and fish processing facilities, the development of the domestic market and new export destinations, port infrastructure, new approaches to logistics and the promotion of fish products, aquaculture, and vocational education, and the use of scientific developments in the fishery industry and in the production of ready-made products.
